Adam Davies' call-up for Wales has left Barnsley short of goalkeeping options next week.

The Reds’ captain and first choice stopper is part of Ryan Giggs’ squad for their home Nations League match against Denmark next Friday then the away friendly in Albania on November 20.

Jack Walton, the back-up goalkeeper who has replaced Davies in the previous two international breaks this season, has missed the last three games through injury. It is unknown whether he will return in time to play against Bradford City in the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday or at Accrington Stanley in the league the following Saturday.

The other goalkeepers at Oakwell are 19-year-old Jake Greatorex, who has been on the bench for both games this week after returning from injury, and Henry Kendrick who has been on the bench twice this season and does not turn 18 until next month.

Greatorex, who is from Barnsley and has been on loan at Penistone Church, is likely to play if Walton is still out. Daniel Stendel said: “We don’t think Jack Walton will play in the cup games but we hope he will be back for Accrington when Adam Davies will be on international duty.”

Stendel's assistant Andreas Winkler added: "It is perfect for Adam, he showed his quality by saving two penalties in the shoot-out (against Everton under 21s on Tuesday). It is not so good for us."

Barnsley’s other injured player is Kenny Dougall who has been called up twice by Australia this season but is yet to make his debut. He is expected to miss the rest of 2018 which means he is unlikely to make the Asian Games in January.
