The Championship relegation fight has taken another twist today with Wigan Athletic facing a 12-point deduction for going into administration.

The deduction, the automatic punishment for administration, will be applied this season if the Latics finish outside the relegation zone which looks likely as they are 14th, eight points clear, and the form team in the league after seven straight clean sheets and six wins in that run. Twelve points being taken off would leave Wigan currently bottom, and move Barnsley up to 22nd.

The Reds – who have made an excellent start to the re-start with seven points and clean sheets in all three games – are due to host Wigan in their next home game on July 11 after trips to fellow strugglers Stoke City and Luton Town.
