Goals from Tom Bradshaw and Zeki Fryers secured Barnsley a well deserved 2-0 win over Birmingham City.

Bradshaw's third minute strike and Fryers' first goal for the club saw off a hapless looking Birmingham side at Oakwell.

Paul Heckingbottom made two changes from the side who won at Burton Albion midweek with Cameron McGeehan and Ike Ugbo benched in favour of George Moncur and Bradshaw.

Former Barnsley skipper Marc Roberts, from Penistone, was named in the Birmingham starting eleven.

Barnsley went ahead with their first attack with Harvey Barnes tearing down the left hand side of the box and squaring for Bradshaw for a simple finish.

Barnes continued to look threatening but it was midfield partner Joe Williams who fired in the next shot after being encouraged to do so by the Ponty End.

The Leicester loanee's cross to the back post was then almost glanced in by Reds' skipper Angus MacDonald.

Lloyd Isgrove came even closer to extending the lead but his effort was pushed out by Tomasz Kuszczak.

MacDonald then made a strong intervention at the other end after Sam Gallagher had turned smartly in the box.

After being booed off at the break, Birmingham had to respond in the second half and did improve with Jota coming more into the game. His route to goal was blocked early on in the half by a well-timed tackle from Liam Lindsay.

The much needed and deserved second goal came in the 68th minute and from an unlikely source with Fryers' 20-yard freekick beating everyone and nestling into the bottom corner.

Moncur then curled two efforts just off target as Barnsley came close to making the scoreline more emphatic.

Bradshaw missed a great chance one-on-one after being put through by Brad Potts and then Andy Yiadom's effort was kept out.
