Barnsley have sold right-back Jason McCarthy to League One rivals Wycombe Wanderers.

The 22-year-old had played 24 games for the Reds since signing from Southampton last summer, but did not start after January.

He has rejoined the newly-promoted Chairboys who he played 39 games for on loan during the 2015/16 season for an undisclosed fee.

McCarthy was ill for the 4-0 win over Oxford United on Saturday but is unlikely to have played as Dimitri Cavare is first choice, while the Reds signed another right-back this week in Jordan Williams.

The deal was completed with minutes to spare before Thursday's deadline for permanent transfers.
