A RESIDENT who lives near a notoriously busy Barnsley road has called for a permanent pedestrian crossing to be included as part of council plans for a residential development.

Chris Bailey, 40, has encouraged people to add their comments to an application made by the council for 32 houses on the former Longcar Centre site, off Racecommon Road.

Chris says the development will increase traffic and footfall on Racecommon Road - which has a long history of safety concerns - and believes the road will become busier and more dangerous.

Chris said: “Previous campaigns have failed and so we used this campaign to get a crossing included in the application.

“More houses will create more traffic and footfall on Racecommon Road, there will be more children living in the 32 houses and all that is going to increase dangers.”
