A CUDWORTH resident fears an accident will happen if a 278-home development goes ahead.

Gwen Johnson, of Newland Avenue, told the Chronicle that roads around the site of Barratt Homes’ planned estate off Carrs Lane - some of which do not have pavements - will not be able to cope with the added traffic.

The developer’s plan was turned down by Barnsley Council last summer but the case is now with the Planning Inspectorate - which has the power to overturn the council’s decision - following an appeal by Barratt last month.

Gwen, 75, said: “A lot has been said about Carrs Lane but Manor Road is even more dangerous. HGVs will have to use it if the development goes ahead and that could create so many problems.
