RESIDENTS near to a new 278-home development which is in the process of being built have claimed their way of life has been ruined.

Barratt Homes, the developer behind the scheme off Carrs Lane, Cudworth, began building on the 20-acre site at the beginning of the year, putting up 125 four-bedroom, 131 three-bedroom and 22 two-bedroom homes.

However, access to the site is being taken down Carrs Lane - a narrow residential street - and HGVs have been blamed for increasing potholes and leaving mud on the road.

The area is coated in constant dust, they say, which has left some people unable to open their windows or hang their washing outside.

Keith Brown, 67, who has lived on the street for around 14 years, said: “The state of the lane is a disgrace. We knew this would be the case, hence why we fought against it before planning permission was granted.

“We were under the impression that Carrs Lane wouldn’t be used as much as it has been. When we’ve asked about that, Barratt have had a blase attitude to it all.

“There’s constant mud, debris and potholes appearing and it’s ruining our way of life. It used to be a lovely place to live before but now they have been awarded planning permission, it’s almost like they can do as they please.”

A spokesman for Barratt apologised to residents for any inconvenience caused by the early stages of the build.

“The majority of the main infrastructure work for the new site in Cudworth has now been completed and we expect to see a significant reduction in traffic to and from the development.

“We apologise for any inconvenience which has been caused to local residents. We have a roadsweeper operating every day to minimise the impact to local roads and to ensure any effect on the area is as minimal as possible.”
