RESIDENTS at a Barnsley care home can enjoy a couple hours in the pub without having to leave the building.

Staff at Chapelview care home, on Spark Lane, Mapplewell, transformed an underused conservatory area following requests by residents.

They’ve done a grand job too, giving it a proper local pub feel with a specially-built bar area complete with beer pumps and optics, a pool table and dart board.

Deputy manager Gemma Storey said it is proving very popular with the punters.

“We had some money donated and had a meeting with our residents asking them what they would like in the home and a lot said a bar, pool table and dart board and that’s what we did.

“We got our heads together and asked the residents how they wanted it to look.

“It took some time but my husband, Paul, built the bar in his own time and some local pubs donated things like beer mats and a pump. We went to an antiques shop in Dodworth and got one of those mirrors you see in pubs so it feels like a local.

“The residents love it. They use it all the time.”
