RESIDENTS had to be evacuated from their homes amid fears a home-made bomb had been found in a nearby flat.

The Royal Logistics Corps bomb squad was called to a flat at Elm Court, Worsbrough, at about 11.30am last Friday after a suspected device was discovered by police visiting the property.

A 100-metre cordon was put in place and as a precaution residents on Elm Court and Dovedale were evacuated and taken to the local library on Queensway.

A spokeswoman for the police said the device was discovered by officers who were visiting the property after the occupant, who was the only man living in the flat, was arrested in connection with other matters.

She said the man cannot be named as he has not been charged, on the advice of CPS.
