RETIREMENT housing plans have been drawn up for a prime town centre site.
House builder McCarthy and Stone has acquired land off Berneslai Close, on the site of the old Beckett Hospital and latterly council offices, for a development of one and two bedroom apartments for older people.
The scheme would see the oldest part of the former hospital retained as part of the new development.
The scheme will also have on-site car parking and landscaped gardens.
The firm wants feedback from residents on the proposals and people can view the plans at a public exhibition on Thursday October 26 at nearby St Mary’s Church, Church Street, from 3-7pm.
Steve Secker, from McCarthy and Stone, said: “We have spent time carefully researching the local area to ensure our proposal is in keeping with Barnsley, while providing much needed specialist accommodation for the older population.”
