MACK the Staffie cross has regarded the Barnsley Animal Rescue Charity's kennels his home for the last five years.

In fact the pooch has grown so fond of the kennels and its staff that they have now decided he can stay forever- because he gets anxiety attacks if they try to take him too far away.

Kerry Flood, BARC kennels manager, said: "We all love Mack and it would be cruel to try to re-home him now because he gets so stressed when we try to move him away from the kennels. Obviously this is a complete one-off, our intention is always to find every dog that ends up in our care a loving new home.

"But Mack is a definite exception.  Staff have tried taking him home with them, but even though he is used to them and loves them, he showed separation anxiety straight away." The good news for the kennels in Station Road, Wath, that takes in dogs from throughout the Barnsley area, is that other dogs are continuing to be offered new owners and homes, no matter how long they have been residents.
