A £500 reward is being offered for the identification of the person responsible for deliberately scratching cars as parents drop their children off at school.

Several cars have been scratched while parked on Colster Close as parents drop their children off at Gawber Primary.

One parent, David Fisher, has claimed the damage may have been done by someone objecting to parents parking there at school times.

David, 50, of Vernon Way, faces forking out between £500 and £600 after his seven-seater Peugeot 4007 was damaged.

He said: "We dropped our kids off at 8.50am and came back to our cars at about 9am and four have been deliberately scratched along the doors and others along the doors and panels.

"We've had letters from the school asking us to be considerate and not to block drives and we don't. But I'm angry - why damage someone's property? It's just malicious and making things worse."

A spokesman for the police said: "Police are currently investigating a number of reports of criminal damage in Velvet Wood Close (off Colster close) near to Gawber Primary School. It is reported that several cars parked on the street have been damaged. Enquiries are ongoing."
