A ROAD closed for more than eight weeks to allow replacement of gas mains is due to re-open next week.

Gas network firm Cadent is upgrading gas mains in Kingwell Road, Ward Green, in order to make sure people continue to receive ‘safe and reliable gas supplies until the end of the century’.

A spokesman said: “Kingwell Road has been closed to through traffic since March 27 while engineers replace more than a kilometre of ageing, metal 12-inch diameter gas mains.

“These are being replaced with tough new plastic pipes that will last for at least 80 years. We are now heading towards the end of the project and all being well we expect it to be finished by the end of next week.

“We’ve had to close the road to through traffic because we’ve had to dig trenches in parts of Kingwell Road to lay the new pipe. We have maintained access for residents. We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused but it is important we complete this work so local people will have safe gas supplies.”
