Students from Barnsley Academy's Lego Robotics Club have created a robot that can get round obstacle courses.
They wowed judges with the robot at the first Lego League contest in Manchester, winning a special Judges' Award. They also gavea presentation on how robots could help prevent damage from volcanoes.
The competition was at the Legoland Discovery Centre in the Trafford Centre and run with the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
The Lego robotics club, which meets after school as part of the Academy's enrichment programme, is made up of students from Years 7 and 8.
Club members in the competition were Oliver Bowley, Joshua Souber, Mason Eggleston, Freddie Bould, James Beeby, Jake Rylance and Brandon Hackett.
Computer science teacher Daniel Wright, who helped prepare the team for the contest, said: "They performed brilliantly, with the judges particularly impressed by the way the students worked together, letting each other speak and valuing each other's opinion."
While in Manchester, the students also had the chance to see some of the incredible Lego creations on display, including a life size model of Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story.
