ONE of Barnsley’s youngest successful entrepreneurs is organising this year’s Barnsley Youth Market to help other young traders get their business ideas off the ground.

Rose Dyson is 18 and is the owner of Pura Cosmetics which is a natural lip care cosmetics business.

She is organising the Barnsley Youth Market which will also serve as the first round of a competition organised by the National Market Traders’ Federation which is based in Hoyland.

With her stall and products, Rose was last year’s national winner. Following her win, she is organising this year’s event on behalf of the council and has been visiting schools to talk to pupils and get them involved.

Rose, of Towngate, Silkstone, said: “Winning has helped me massively. As well as winning a £500 cash prize, I won support packages from the NMTF and it really helped.

“Things have gone huge this year, lots of opportunities keep coming my way. I’m doing quite a few public speaking jobs but the business itself is going unbelievably.

“I’m hoping to get in touch with some big retailers soon.

“I’m currently in the middle of my A Level exams, but once they are done I’m not going to university, I’m going full time with it.

“There’s lots of things on the cards, and I’m still working with stockists.”

This year, there will be one youth market in Barnsley. It is open to anyone aged between 16 and 30 and is free to stand. The top traders will be selected to go through to the regional final at Leeds Kirkgate Market. From there, one trader from Barnsley will go to the National Youth Market in Stratford-upon-Avon, where there’s a chance to win the title of 'National Young Trader of the Year’.

As well as looking for traders, Rose is also on the hunt for performers who may want to busk at the Barnsley Youth Market. She has organised an information evening at the Digital Media Centre on Wednesday from 6pm to 7.30pm. Young people will be able to find out about the competition, as well as gain advice from Trading Standards and market trading experts.

Rose is also heading to Parliament on May 15 where she is expected to address MPs about young market traders, young entrepreneurs, how to get young people involved and her own success and how her career has progressed.

Barnsley Youth Market will take place on June 30.
