PROPOSALS to increase the size and capacity of the busy Birdwell roundabout will be decided by planning officials on Tuesday.
Works include a new gyratory and realignment of the links to Sheffield Road and to junction 36 of the M1, as well as creating a new roundabout junction to the east side of Birdwell roundabout, carriageway realignment, a second new roundabout junction connecting to Rockingham roundabout and an additional slip road exit lane off the M1.
The proposals aim to reduce congestion and increase capacity to meet the needs of new business parks planned on the Dearne Valley Parkway.
It will also include a combined footpath/cyclepath to improve pedestrian and cyclist safety.
