Barnsley have wingers Iain Vigurs and Omar Rowe on trial as they look to add to their currently weak attacking options.

Rowe is a 20-year-old who was released this summer from Southampton where he came through the academy and made two first team appearances, one of which was at Oakwell in a 5-1 League Cup win for the Saints in 2013.

Scotsman Vigurs, 27, has played for various clubs north of the border including Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Ross County and Motherwell, who released him this summer. Barnsley head coach Lee Johnson tried to sign Vigurs – who has played more than 100 Scottish Premier League games – while he was manager of Oldham Athletic two summers ago but could not agree a deal.

Johnson told the Chronicle: "We always wanted to have a look at a few players in pre-season and Omar Rowe and Iain Vigurs are two that we wanted to bring and work with for a couple of weeks.  It's too early to say whether we will sign them or not.

"It's no secret that we need wingers and strikers and that's our main priority now. We need goals in the team. We are probably not as close as I would like to bringing anyone else in but we have feelers out and we know what we need."

Barnsley's interest in Conor Wilkinson has cooled after the club agreed a fee with Bolton Wanderers but found his wage demands too high. The Reds are willing to reopen talks if the wage demands come down and may consider a loan deal later in the summer for the tall striker, 20, who played for Johnson on loan at Oldham last season.
