A WOMAN who is thought to be Royston’s oldest resident has celebrated her 104th birthday.

Catherine Scoffins, who was born on April 20 in 1913, lived through both World Wars and marked the occasion with a small gathering at Oakwood Grange Care Home, where she now lives.

Formerly of Meadow Road, mum-of-two Catherine has lived in the village for most of her life and went to the nearby church school, before working as a nurse.

“There’s no great secret to the age - I’ve just always made the best of what I have,” Catherine, who lived independently until last year, told the Chronicle. “I have a lot to be thankful for and lead a healthy lifestyle.

“I wasn’t too bothered about a party as I didn’t want any fuss so we just had a smaller gathering.”
