THE mother of an autistic boy has called for 'safe spaces' to be installed in all mainstream schools to help cope with autistic episodes.

Teresa White, 38, has two sons - Harrison, nine, who has autism, and Presley, 11, who has Asperger's Syndrome.

They have both attended St Helen's Primary Academy in Monk Bretton since nursery.

She said the safe space - which is similar to a padded tent - would help Harrison to learn how to calm himself down.

Teresa said the safe spaces cost more than £5,000 and she is now fundraising for one at St Helen's where she has the backing of staff.
