A GRATEFUL wife is reaching out in a bid to find two women in Barnsley who helped save the life of her husband.

Corrinne Roberts, of Lancaster Street, said her husband Harry, 78, collapsed while walking up Peel Street in Barnsley town centre last Tuesday.

The 78-year-old had dropped his wife off in town despite saying he was not feeling well and was walking back from the bank when he fainted.

After two good Samaritans stopped to check on Harry and called for help, he was rushed to Barnsley Hospital where he was in a serious condition.

He subsequently had to be transferred to the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield.

There Harry underwent emergency surgery after doctors found that part of his intestine was rotting.

His wife Corrinne said he is now back at home recovering after undergoing two-and-a-half hours of surgery.

However, Corrinne, 79, says she believes that Harry wouldn’t have survived if two unknown women hadn’t found him collapsed, called an ambulance and waited with him.

“We weren’t really sure how long he was there for but they did help to save his life,” said Corrinne.

“He was feeling unwell in the morning and he had stomach ache but he dropped me off in town and went to the bank but collapsed walking back to the car.

“When the paramedics phoned me, I went to Barnsley Hospital and he was in so much pain.

“I could hear him crying out and knew it was him before I saw him.

“They said part of his intestine was infected and rotting and they had to remove it.”

At first, doctors told Corrinne that Harry had a less than 50 per cent chance of survival.

“Without those girls and the help of the paramedics and surgeons, he wouldn’t be sitting here today,” said Corrinne.

“He is going to recover but at the moment it is a slow process.

“He is still in pain and is sat resting at home which he doesn’t like as he is usually very active.

“I am just very grateful to the two ladies who helped him, the paramedics and surgeons.

“We would both like to meet the two ladies and thank them.”
