A BARNSLEY mum who chose to send her daughter to school ten miles away in Penistone for a better education says life is being made a misery by 'a farce' of a school bus service.

School bus services have been reduced while student numbers are rising - particularly the number of those travelling to the school from outside the Penistone area.

Melanie Bowles, of Chilcombe Place, Birdwell, says the council has told her it was monitoring the situation but could take weeks to sort out.

"Once they have finished assessing whether another bus is needed, and if they decide one is needed, they will put it out to tender and any interested or successful parties will have 50 days to put a service together.

"In the meantime up to 20 pupils a day from the Birdwell, Blacker Hill and Worsbrough area are being left at school."

A spokesman from Tates Travel, which provides buses from Penistone Grammar School, said: "We are talking to the school, the PTE, and the council to try and resolve the issue."
