COUNCIL chiefs have confirmed they have no money to rescue bus services used by dozens of Barnsley pupils at Penistone Grammar School.

The 411 service, which picked up children in Worsbrough, Birdwell and Tankersley, and the 409, which serviced Wortley, Thurgoland and Oxspring, was redrawn at the end of last term and will not be replaced.

The services had originally been run by Tates Travel who withdrew saying it was unviable and was funded by the South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive until July.

But yesterday a council spokesman said: "Unfortunately, SYPTE and Barnsley Council do not have the funding needed to continue the service."
