A PRIMARY school head teacher said her school felt ‘proud’ after being rated good across the board in its latest Ofsted report.

Following its latest inspection Athersley South Primary’s senior leaders were praised regarding the passion they had for the school, and all staff create an environment where students feel safe and happy.

Pupils’ behaviour while at school was also praised.

The report said: “Relationships are good, particularly in the early years and key stage one, where boys and girls play together extremely well.

“Senior leaders hold regular meetings with teachers, where rigourous assessment of pupils’ progress helps plan next steps of learning.

“Pupils are well educated about safety and confidently discuss the effect substances such as alcohol can have on their bodies.

“The behaviour of pupils is good. Pupils manage their own business well with little direction from adults needed.

“Even when they were excited about the Halloween disco, pupils still concentrated and returned to the task in hand when asked.”

Emma Sanderson, head teacher at Athersley South Primary, said: “We feel very proud of our recent Ofsted report and its recognition of all of the hardworking, dedicated and enthusiastic staff and children at Athersley South.”

It was the first inspection since 2012 when the school had been rated ‘outstanding’.
