A SHAKE-UP of school holidays is back on the cards.

Barnsley Council has outlined fresh proposals for changes to school term and holiday dates for the 2018/19 academic year following a shock U-turn earlier this year on ditching the traditional long summer break in favour of having four weeks and four days and an extra week in October.

The council gave the go-ahead in March to do away the traditional six week break in favour of the new structure but this was abandoned amid criticism that teachers had not been properly consulted.

Schools, parents and unions are now being invited to give their views on three options being considered.
