A BARNSLEY primary school has improved from being told it ‘requires improvement’ to being rated ‘good’ in every area according to its latest Ofsted inspection report.

And it’s a double celebration for Wellgate Primary at Mapplewell as the report comes at the same time as the school has been granted an Investors in Pupils award - a status similar to the Investors in People awarded to good employers.

The school had been told by Ofsted in 2014 that every area required improvement, but the report into its July inspection, published by Ofsted this week, gives praise across the board.

The report says: “The headteacher’s determination, commitment and very skilful leadership have created a culture where staff are unrelenting in ensuring that pupils are well cared for, safe and achieve well.”
