THE mother and grandmother of two young brothers killed following a house fire laid flowers in their memory during Penistone Grammar School's remembrance service.

Claire Sykes and her mother Pam Throssell were invited to the event after it was dedicated to grammar school student Jack, 12, and Springvale Primary pupil Paul, nine.

Members of Penistone's community wind band, of which Jack was a member, fought back tears as they played at the ceremony. Their performance included one of Jack's favourite songs, What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong.

The brothers died along with their father Darren, 44, after the fire at Tennyson Close, Penistone on October 22.

The boys' funeral takes place at 11am Friday November 14  at St John's Church, Penistone.
