PUPILS at a local school were given an exclusive behind the scenes tour of a new housing development.

Students at Tankersley Primary School were welcomed to the new Castle Vale development in Pilley, opposite the school, by David Wilson Home Yorkshire West.

The 28 year four pupils learnt how houses are built, what construction vehicles and equipment is needed and the various stages that goes into a build.

“We were delighted to visit the new Castle Vale development, which is just across the road from our school,” said Tankersley head teacher, Jayne Proctor-Blain.

“One of our key aims is to be enterprising, so it was great for the pupils to learn how houses are built and the materials involved, which link to our science lessons.

“It’s fantastic to see such a modern, yet homely development coming to life and lots of new families arriving in our village.”

Senior site manager, Dave Beck, was on hand to answer any questions the children had and kitted them out with professional hi-vis jackets and hard hats to get them in the spirit.

“It was a pleasure to welcome the children from Tankersley Primary School to visit Castle Vale to learn how we build houses,” he said. “They seemed to really enjoy seeing the tools involved and learning about the different people it takes to build just one new house. Who knows, perhaps we’ve inspired some future house builders.”
