CARLTON Community College is to remain in special measures following a damning report from Ofsted inspectors.

Inspectors found a catalogue of problems and stated teaching is inadequate. and in mathematics and science, is exceptionally poor.

It found incidents of bullying are frequent and not always dealt with effectively and said too many students have been excluded for a fixed period of time. Many students are still being removed from lessons because of their behaviour.

The report reads: "This school requires special measures because it is failing to give its pupils an acceptable standard of education and the persons responsible for leading, managing or governing the school are not demonstrating the capacity to secure the necessary improvement in the school."

The report says the school in Royston Lane, which was put in special measures - Ofsted's worst category of failing school - in January 2012, needs to improve the quality of teaching quickly.

It needs to raise attainment, and improve progress for all students and in all subjects; increase attendance rates for specific groups of students especially the disadvantaged; improve the behaviour and safety of the students by reducing the proportion of students removed from lessons.

On the positive side inspectors found attendance, overall, is improving and is now close to the national average.

In some lessons, students are behaving better and are quick to settle to the activities and tasks set and they have a pride in their work.
