THOUGHTFUL pupils at a Barnsley school amassed 15 boxes full of food for the Barnsley Food Bank as part of a project in school.

Year six pupils at Summer Lane Primary are taking part of the Archbishop of York’s Youth Trust. It runs throughout the year, and one of the elements of the project is for the children to do their own work in the community.

The youngsters decided they wanted to run a campaign to collect food for those in need, and between them managed to collect a huge amount of food.

“We’re all extremely proud of them,” said head teacher Rob Smith. “I’m delighted with how they’ve really thought about it and got stuck in.”

Previous work as part of the project has seen children go to a local care home to carry out improvements to the garden.
