A SCHOOL in which parents claim staff go the extra mile have been shortlisted for an award.

Greenfield Primary School, Hoyland, was shortlisted in the School of the Year category for the Proud of Barnsley awards.

In his nomination, Rodger Keddy, of South Lea Drive, said headmaster Andrew Ralf and all his staff 'go that extra mile with a smile.'

He said such as their dedication and enthusiasm to their profession that he had been motivated to volunteer.

Headteacher Andrew Ralph said: "The school is really proud to have been recognised for the good work it does. At Greenfield, we are particularly proud of the way we have strengthened our position at the heart of the community from the work undertaken by staff, children, parents and volunteers.

"Over recent years the school has developed strengths in many areas, with teaching improving and consequently the end of key stage results improving to be amongst the best in the borough. However, one thing that Greenfield holds central to the role of a school, is that it is there to serve the community and children come first."
