A BARNSLEY school which excluded more than a third of its pupils last year says it won't relent on its tough behaviour stance.

Figures obtained by the Chronicle show 293 of the 857 pupils at Carlton - more than a third - were excluded for at least one day in the last school year.

Executive principal Paul Tarn says the figures do not paint the true picture of just how much the once poorly-performing school has improved.

Last week the school scored its best ever GCSE results, up from 29 per cent to 51 per cent in the last year in terms of pupils getting at least five good grades including English and maths.
