A DARFIELD care home teamed up with local schools to give more than 300 presents to elderly patients who spent Christmas at Barnsley Hospital.

Thornhill House’s care team - headed by manager Christian Whiteley-Mason - worked alongside schools including All Saints Academy and Netherwood to collect a variety of gifts including toiletry sets, sweets, scarves and socks.

Emily Burgin, fundraiser for Barnsley Hospital Charity, said: “It is a well-known fact that some older people feel lonely at Christmas.

“This heartfelt gesture from Thornhill House and the local schools ensured that our elderly patients knew someone was thinking of them during the festive period.”
