BARNSLEY Council has assured parents that schools will continue as normal following the announcement about the liquidation of Carillion - the firm which runs services in schools across Barnsley.

A council spokesman said today: “Barnsley Council would like to reassure parents, children and staff that secondary schools in Barnsley will continue to operate as normal in the light of the collapse of Carillion, who currently provide facility management services such as caretaking, cleaning and maintenance to these schools.

“The council are working closely with the Barnsley Local Education Partnership who are ultimately responsible for the provision of this service and central government to ensure that this continues to be the case until this issue has been resolved.

“We are also helping to support the staff who provide these services during this difficult time. Central government has also given a reassurance that they will ensure these services continue to be delivered.”
