BLOOMING geraniums have had to be replaced after scissor-wielding thugs struck in Royston.

The attack, which took place at some point last weekend, saw the plants' heads cut off on The Wells.

Sheila Craig, 75, who looks after the plants with friend Betty Fawcett, 88, said: "We took on their upkeep in the autumn due to Barnsley Council's budget cuts, so we have transformed it from a weedy area into one which looked great.

"Whoever is responsible for cutting their heads off needs to stop and think what they're doing in the future as we've had to replace the ruined plants. A lot of effort was put in for someone to undo with a feckless act."
