BARNSLEY Sea Cadets' fledgling band members are trying to drum up support for new instruments because they're having to share bugles and play on snare drums held together with string.

The sorry state of musical affairs is why the cadets, based on Racecommon Road, are appealing to the good folk of Barnsley for any donations of bugles, bell lyres, drums, cornets or trumpets. The band will happily take instruments that need repair, because to buy new, instruments can cost hundreds.
