THE seaside is on its way to Barnsley town centre - and it will be here for people to enjoy for the rest of the summer holidays.

Barnsley by the Sea, now in its third year, is open to the public from today, with an official unveiling by Mayor of Barnsley Coun Jeff Ennis being scheduled in for Monday.

The attraction’s sandy beaches have been popular with children and adults alike in the last few years - and Barnsley Council has encouraged people to bring their buckets and spades again.

Coun Roy Miller, cabinet spokesman, said: “We’re delighted that Barnsley by the Sea is back this summer. Once again it will bring all the fun of the seaside to the town centre.”
