A NEW CCTV camera system designed to provide clearer views of incidents in the town centre is due to be approved by the council’s ruling cabinet on Wednesday.

It will replace the current CCTV system with modern technology, increasing coverage and providing clearer ‘higher definition’ footage and images.

The proposed system will also have the ability to support the development of a ‘smart town centre’ meaning the high-tech link up of different technology and internet-connected equipment, for example enabling cameras to automatically activate lighting.

Coun Jenny Platts said: “A new CCTV system in the town centre will support the ongoing improvements that we are already seeing.”
