PEOPLE with diabetes were not invited to their routine diabetes eye test at Barnsley Hospital, a report has revealed.

The serious incident was noted in the board papers of the Barnsley Clinical Commissioning Group which commissions the town’s health services.

The papers state the full impact of the incident is not fully understood.

Bob Kirton, deputy chief executive at Barnsley Hospital, said: “We can confirm that a small number of diabetes patients were not invited to their routine diabetes eye test, we are currently in the process of writing to the patients affected in order to arrange appointments for them.

“We are currently working with NHS England in order to establish how this has happened and ensure similar incidents do not occur.”
