Shaw Lane AFC have suffered a tragic loss after their player Daniel Wilkinson died following a collapse on the pitch during their game last night.

The Ducks were playing in an Evo-Stik League Cup match at Brighouse Town on Monday when Wilkinson, from Hull, suffered a suspected heart attack.

Shaw Lane, Barnsley's highest-placed ever non-league club, announced this morning that their 24-year-old summer signing had died.

Tributes have flooded in from the football community including from fellow Barnsley clubs Athersley Rec, Worsbrough Bridge and Houghton Main.
