Barnsley RUFC saw off Halifax Vandals 38-10 to keep their promotion hopes alive.

It extends the Shaw Laner's unbeaten run to five games, with four victories, and keeps them in second spot in Yorkshire Division Two.

Coach Mark Smith praised the performance and was pleased to see his side put some distance between the chasing pack.

He said: "It was another good win for us and other results went our way too, so it was a decent day.

"It was a typical first game after the break with both sides struggling for rhythm but we were strong up front and went well in the backs to come out convincing winners.

"They made it hard for us with some tough tackling and we had to work hard for all of our scores.

"We look forward to another home game this week against Roundhegians who had a big win against Wath and we'll need to put in another good performance if we want to maintain our momentum."

Barnsley stormed ahead with Arran Foye and Dave Reed going over in the first 12 minutes. Foye also converted both tries.

Tom Bagnall's try, which was also converted, gave them a 21-0 lead at the break but Halifax fought back with two tries early in the second.

Reed's second gave them some breathing space before Bagnall notched himself a brace. Dave Terrington made the scoreline even more convincing with the final score of the game.
