John Rooney and Toni Silva are still in David Flitcroft’s plans but the manager says the pair both require a lot of work before they play for the first team.

Silva, 19, signed for the Reds from Liverpool last summer and made one appearance as a substitute at Hull in November. Rooney, 22, the brother of England star Wayne, joined in October but has not played for the first team.

Flitcroft said: “They are both under the development squad bracket at the moment. Some days they train with the first team and some days they are with the development squad.

"We are working on making Roons more dynamic and with Toni we are working on the other side of his game when he is out of possession.”
