SIR Bradley Wiggins will be among the elite riders pounding the pedals through Barnsley's streets for the Tour de Yorkshire cycle race.

Crowds will be able to cheer on the 2012 Tour de France winner, who leaves Team Sky at the end of April and will lead his own Team Wiggins developmental squad.

The four-time Olympic champion, overlooked by Team Sky for last year's Tour de France race, revealed the three-day Yorkshire race will be among his first events with the new team.

The peloton, which could be up to 160 riders strong, will race along ten miles of Barnsley's roads on Sunday, May 3 and is the only South Yorkshire borough to feature in the race.

** The full story, including details about 112 road closures, appears in the Barnsley Chronicle newspaper, dated March 20. **
