A PAIR of sisters are celebrating after giving birth to their daughters on the same day.
Jenna Whelan and Jessica Taylor, of Hoyland and Hemingfield respectively, both found out they were pregnant on the same week, but were told there was a six day difference between their due dates.
However, the sisters were induced one day after the other and ended up opposite each other in Barnsley Hospital and helping each through their contractions.
Jenna, 31, of Kingswood Crescent, Hoyland, was the first to give birth at 3.15am on Friday to Annie Whelan, who weighed 7lbs 13oz, while Jessica, 23, gave birth to her daughter Marnie Prescott, who weighed 6lbs 5oz, at 10.45pm.
Both women have said the experience of sharing the births was ‘magical’ and as they have always been close, they hope their little girls are too.
Jenna said: “I had a miscarriage in March last year so for Annie to come along it’s been massive, so she’s a rainbow baby.
“For Jessica to say that she was pregnant too is amazing.
“The first scan said there six days between us, I was due on February 26 and Jessica was due on February 20. We were both early.
“It still hasn’t hit us both yet I think, it’s still strange to think that we gave birth on the same day. It was nice to share the experience with my sister. Both girls were born in the same labour suite, the same room and the same staff members were on as well.
“They are already sharing clothes and we have a lot of the same outfits for them as well.”
Ms Taylor added: “We didn’t even know what sex the babies were going to be beforehand either, we waited until we gave birth so for them both to be girls is amazing. They will be able to grow up together.”
