Six Barnsley fighters feature tonight at the Metrodome with Robbie Barrett and Ben Davies co-headlining the bill.

Lightweight Barrett, from Darfield, sees his match as more than just a defence of his beloved Central Area title.

It is also a chance to prove that he has come a long way since his career was put on hold two years ago after a surprise defeat.

The 23-year-old faces former foe Ismail Anwar from Huddersfield in the first defence of the title he won against Barnsley rival Brad Botham earlier this year.

Barrett threw away his then unbeaten record against Anwar in 2013 and had to rebuild with his trainer and manager Stefy Bull.

He had put Anwar down in round one before he allowed his lead to slip and eventually fell to a 57-56 loss.

Another defeat followed that year but he's now unbeaten in four and feels he is twice the fighter of back then.

Barrett said: "It isn't just a title defence, it's a fight that I've been after for a bit.

"It's a chance to put things right.

"I felt I'd beaten him first time but I didn't get the decision. It was close.

"Looking at how I was then and what I'm like now, it's a massive difference.

"I was still pretty much amateur back then. My feet were all over but now I'm settling down a bit.

"He (Anwar) is slippery and a bit erratic so it's not going to be easy."

Dodworth middleweight Davies, 25, takes on former Welsh champion Frankie Borg from Cardiff.
Davies had once wanted to face Borg for the Welsh title but recently discovered that his ancestry, which would be enough to play football for Wales, is not sufficient to qualify under the Welsh board’s new rules.

Now Davies, who trains under the guidance of Sean Thickett in Sheffield, sees this non-title fight as a yardstick instead.
“I’m not Welsh enough to box for the title but fighting the former champion will give me an idea of the level I’m at,” said Davies.

“It’s about trying to go places. I want to push on and a win against Borg would help me to do that.
“He has a win over the former European champion Kerry Hope, so beating him would look good.”

English champion Andy Townend, from Cudworth, also features in a six-round contest against Pole Lukasz Janik.

Also featuring in his first six-rounder is Athersley South cruiserweight Tony Cruise, 33, who is up against Northern-Ireland based Ugandan Moses Matovu.
It will be the first time Cruise will step up to a longer distance after three wins from four over the four-round distance.
Barnsley super-featherweight Jack Churchill, 23, goes for a third straight win. He is up against late replacement Dean Evans from Hereford.
Grimethorpe welterweight Ryan Hinchliffe, 28, kicks off his professional career against London-based Bulgarian Danny Donchev.
They are both four-round contests.
