A SIX-month review is to be carried out by Barnsley Council into voluntary and community services across the borough, according to a report.

Barnsley Council is reshaping the way it works with local communities and says it is important to have understanding of how local voluntary and community services are delivered, and if there are any gaps in provision.

This will help to make sure that future services provide the support that local residents need.

A report made to cabinet on Wednesday recommended that an external, independent provider leads the review, at a cost of £50,000.

This will look at how services are currently delivered across the borough, researching best practice on delivery of services from other local authorities, and developing a specification for the future model of voluntary and community sector provision in Barnsley.
