Gawber teenager Elliott Bennett showed why he is one of the hottest prospects in British skiing as he was named national champion in under 16s Super G.

The Penistone Grammar School student crossed the line in 55.89 seconds to top the standings at the 2019 GB Alpine Championships in Tignes, France.

The 16-year-old, who was the first skiier to compete in his event out of 95, said: “I wanted to prove myself to the rest of the British racers and I think I did that. I was happy to be first off, looking at the conditions and the way the snow had come down I thought it was going to play to my advantage and it did.

“It was a bit nerve-wracking but, when I came through the finish, some quite good coaches and heads of clubs were saying ‘well done’.”
