THE daughter of a Hoyland man murdered in a struggle with a car thief is planning a sponsored skydive on Father's Day to help other families living through tragic circumstances.

Charlotte Armitage's dad Dean died when he confronted burglar David Sindall outside the family home in Skiers View Road, Hoyland, in July last year.

The 49-year-old haulage firm boss was treated for skull fractures on the neurological critical care unit at Royal Hallamshire Hospital for three weeks but never regained consciousness.

Charlotte, 34, and her brother Josh's girlfriend Betsy Rapson hope to raise £1,000 for Neurocare, which funds a hospital relatives' room and hotel accommodation near the Royal Hallamshire Hospital so loved ones can stay close to patients.

Nursery worker Charlotte, of Barnsley, said: "The relatives' room meant we could all be there, when we didn't want to leave dad, and my mum Mandy stayed in the hotel as well so she could be close to him. This was a great comfort knowing we could be close to my dad."

Career criminal Sindall, 34, of Eastwood, Rotherham, was jailed for life and told he must serve 24 years for the murder of Mr Armitage.

Charlotte and Betsy will complete the skydive on June 15 at Brigg.
