CUSTOMERS from across the north are enjoying cheesecakes made in Barnsley after a local bakery made a deal to sell them in House of Fraser.

The New York Cheesecake Bakery is based on the Burlington Arcade where owner Raimonda Steponaviciene makes divine creations with ingredients as raspberry, white chocolate and Maltesers.

Raimonda had a pop-up stall outside House of Fraser at Meadowhall where the manager tried one of her cheesecakes and was so taken by it, that he invited her to a meeting.

That led to the firm being allowed to sell their products within the department store. There are three stores, Meadowhall, Manchester and Leeds, which Raimonda, 42 who lives in Millhouse Green, Penistone, bakes for.

The business, which opened in September in 2016, is still small so selling in all three stores works is on a rotational basis. Raimonda bakes roughly 120 cheesecakes and other sweet treats to be sold at a stall in store that will be open for three days. Then, she bakes for one of the other stores and sells there.

Looking forward, she says she is hoping to expand the business with a bigger bakery so she can sell in more stores across the country. She would also need to hire new staff, as colleagues in the Barnsley bakery are now selling their products in the House of Fraser stores.

Raimonda, who is originally from Lithuania, also still sells on market stalls throughout Yorkshire and as well as cheesecakes, also makes cakes, Eton mess and meringues.
