THREE elderly people were tricked into letting people into their homes and later noticed their wallets and handbags had been stolen.

The incidents happened at Ravenholt, Yewdale, Worsbrough, and Yews Lane, Kendray. A 38-year-old man has been arrested and bailed pending further enquiries, but police are now warning others to be vigilant.

Det Sgt Stuart Hall said: ""If you have any concerns or doubts about an individual approaching your home or offering services, do not be afraid to question their validity. Ask for an identification card and if you need to, close your door and make a phone call to the company they say they work for to confirm their information.

"The same advice goes for any cold caller that may approach your home. If in doubt, check it out – if you suspect suspicious behaviour, please report it to police via 101."

Anyone with information should call 101 quoting incident number 727 of Saturday, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
