A SOLUTION to help ease school-run parking congestion around Penistone’s biggest primary school has been identified by councillors and highways engineers and it is hoped funding can be found soon to put the new arrangements in place.

Heavy traffic around St John’s junior and infant school, which operates from two sites, has been a problem for some time but the school has now been expanded to cope with a growing need for pupil places in the next few years, meaning the situation could get worse.

However, Councillors Dave Griffin and Joe Unsworth have been involved in a project with Barnsley Council’s highways engineers and now believe a relatively simple solution of using double-yellow lines at key points close to junctions should be enough to make a significant difference to the problems motorists face.
